Parents will meet and engage with their daughter’s advisory teacher to talk about the transition from elementary to middle school and learn firsthand about GLOW Academy’s approach to creating positive school culture.

October 10, 2017Community Partners and Resources/Meet the Guidance Counselor
Parents will meet our new Guidance Counselor, ask questions and get connected to community partners and resources. We will invite community organizations with services to offer our students to meet parents. For example, Nourish NC to do a Farmers “MarKID” and talk about Nourish boxes, BRC to talk about their programming, local tutoring programs to talk about their services, etc.

December 12, 2017Managing Toxic Stress in the Home/ BRC OR AMI Kids
Abdullah Hafeedh, Community Outreach Coordinator at BRC, invites parents to learn and share on the topic of Emotional Intelligence and managing stress in the home for your daughter’s success. During an hour-long interactive workshop parents will:
Discuss types of stress and its impact on children

  • Discuss types of stress and its impact on children
  • Identify causes of toxic stress in the home and brainstorm ways to manage it
  • Learn research-based stress management strategies for personal use and to teach their children

Parents will talk about practical financial best practices and get advice and guidance with how to complete their 2017 taxes for maximum financial benefit.

Parents will hear from College Bound Counselor, Ms. Jahleese, about what summer enrichment and academic opportunities exist for GLOW girls and how they can apply for them.

Parents will learn best practices and exercises that can be implemented at home to help your child prepare for the EOGs with confidence. They will also learn more about the EOG schedule at GLOW Academy and ask questions to be more informed.
